21st Century Scholars looking at 8th grade STEM education

Today, I received a call from Nikki Hutchinson from 21st Century Scholars. She was forwarded my name from someone in the community who knows me, and asked if I will serve on a task force for helping 8th graders. This task force will troubleshoot ways to stimulate 8th grade girls in becoming interested and motivated in STEM fields. I agreed to serve on this task force, and our first meeting may not be until the end of September. I think it will be exciting to be more involved in the community.
I was a 21st century scholar when I was in school. It is a state program that offers college preparation and scholarships (only Indiana public colleges) for those students who commit to staying in school and practice good citizenship (i.e., no drugs, etc). Students are enrolled in 8th grade, and continue throughout high school.
While I did end up attending a private college, I did value the preparation from 21st century during high school. I look forward to giving back my time to the program.
