A Deep Song about Caves…

Where most students made a poster or gave a Powerpoint for their project, one of Mrs. Fletcher’s students decided to perform a self-composed song about Caves as his 9 weeks Geology Project. The lyrics are a little difficult to understand on the video because the singer “spoke” the story, but in essence he’s discussing a stream and a river that find their way into the side of a mountain that leads into a cave, and then all of the things they come across in the cave (e.g. stalagmites/stalagtites, and nocturnal animals.)

So as music programs around the country are being cut, maybe this video can be a small reminder that music can help expand students’ learning in so many different areas of their education. Not only did this educationally benefit the student who wrote and performed the song with the work, creativity, and confidence it too him to present it, but it enhanced the entire class, Mrs. Fletcher, and myself in both the science he presented and the music he created.
