A quick idea of what I’ve been doing at the LBT for the fast few weeks.  You’re watching a code in IDL run through images from the Wave Front Sensor Camera in hopes that the code that I’ve been writing will increase the efficiency and accuracy of the active optics on the telescope.

You’re watching the light from a star being separated into specific spots on a grid so that the telescope’s computer can calculate how distorted the image is from the real star.

In the set of images seen here you can watch as the telescope corrects itself for the misalignment of the spots and over a few images, the spots get closer and closer to being in the proper setup, which looks like a stop-sign but missing the center box.
