Brazil, see you in 6 weeks…

On August 9th, I’m headed here…
I’m traveling to Rio de Janerio, Brazil for the “Exploring the Nature of the Evolving Universe” Workshop, hosted by PUC– Rio, Pontifícia Universidade Católica.
My advisor is giving an hour long Invited Talk, and I’ll be giving a 20 minute talk during the workshop on my research.
The workshop runs from the 15th to 19th of August, 2011, but I will be in Brazil starting on August 10th.
Along with a professor and student from the Catholic University of America (CUA) in D.C., I applied for funding to go to the Workshop via the American Physical Society (APS) and the Sociedade Brasileira de Fisica (SBF), a joint funding exchange opportunity for Brazilian and American professors and students.
I found out on June 15th that my proposal was accepted for an APS/SBF award to go to Brazil.
Although the Workshop starts on the 15th, I am flying out on the 9th (landing in Brazil on the 10th) and then giving a talk to the PUC Physics Colloquium on the 11th, along with some other TBA meetings and collaborations.
This week I purchased my plane tickets, hotel reservations for the 10th-14th, and a group of people from CUA and I are sharing a hostel from the 14th-20th.
More details to come… but for now, I’m trying to focus on getting lots of work done, and learning Brazilian Portuguese as quickly as possible! I will likely be the palest person in Rio, and possibly all of South America…
