Running low on our protein EB1

We are spending this week learning how to purify our protein from E. coli this week.  It takes about 4 days from start to finish.  Hopefully by the end of this week we will have enough of the protein to work with for the rest of the summer.  Although, purifying the protein is a good learning experience.  I will keep you posted on what we are up to in Goodson’s lab.

The time seems to be going by very quickly.  I have enjoyed the time in the lab so far.  I have done a lot of interesting work that is preparing me for later in the summer.  It is always good to learn new things.  Aranda has turned out to be a great teacher, and I look forward to seeing her work in the classroom with my high school students.  Here is a gel that we did this week.  While it might look nice, it did not turn out so well.  I did something wrong, and I am going to have to figure it out.

Here is what one should look like.  I also did this gel to see how much of the EB1 protein binds to the Microtubules, but this one turned out a lot better.  Notice that there are more bands!!!!

Oh well, back to the drawing board!?!
