In the first week Michael and I have been working on developing GUI s having to do with magnetism.  We have developed materials showing magnetic fields and materials showing the path followed by a charged particle in a magnetic field.  Despite having missed one day because of back problems we have posted three things on the wikispace.  We would be interested in knowing if anyone who has MatLab capabilities has visited the sight and sucessfully downloaded the GUI s.  Did they run for you?

The second week we worked on some of the problems with our initial path images.  The time step needs to be small enough so that the error is minimal in using the approximation of the average velocity for the instantaneous velocity.  We also did not take into account the implications of relativity.  We worked on tools which would make the comparisons required by relativity.  These have been added to the wikispace nano pages.

We have seveal pages up on the wikispace and the tools are there for you to play with.  We hope that you or your students will try several different initial conditions.  The great thing about GUI’s is they encourage experimentation.

We have added some work comparing the paths in the uniform magnetic field and the magnetic field generated by a current carrying wire.

Be the first to like.
