Almost as good as Ironman

Our DVT ( Digital Visualization Theater – aka animation ) group at QuarkNet is working on a video about dark matter this summer. The interesting thing about making video about dark matter is the fact that we can’t see it so we don’t know what it looks like. So how can you make a movie about something you can’t see?

Dark matter plays a large role in our universe, it accounts for mass (and energy) that we can’t see on things that we can see. For example, if a star’s rotation due to gravity doesn’t match what it should be according to it’s mass, then there’s dark matter that makes up the “missing mass”.

So by showing where dark matter is in the universe, the DVT group can educate people on the presence and significance of dark matter.

The program they’re using to make is video is very advanced. Its the same program thats used for blockbuster superhero movies; like Ironman and The Dark Knight. The video will be played at the Digital Visualization Theater at Jordan Hall, which covers an entire dome with a fifty foot radius.
