Pass out iPADs on the 1st day of school

Chemistry books are in short supply at one HS in the SB school district, so the classroom teacher has one set of textbooks that must be shared throughout the day by students in each class. I’m a chem tutor for the Notre Dame UPWARD BOUND College Prep Program, and the student I’m helping out sure could use a copy of the book. Tonight, we worked on subatomic particles and conversion factors in equations, as these were the topics the student recalled. Next session we will be more prepared, as the student will bring the hand written notes. That’s all that we have to go on.
I got to thinking, would it be worthwhile for school systems to consider investing in iPADs so that the books and supplemental materials could be quickly available for students. The initial investment would be steep, but maybe it would pay for itself over time? Anyone who’s reading this can tell that I am clueless about the costs and logistics, but it’s a new day. I am an advocate for looking into new technologies for the modern student.
