Close to two thousand people attended the conference, and there was a show of hands for the ABS - looked like a couple hundred to me.

For sure, people were sharing info, but there were several new PhDs who did a panel discussion especially for doctoral students.

I think that Dr. Jean's speech was developed during his very first attendance to an Institute on Teaching and Mentoring conference, I'm guessing some years back. He gave us all a healthy dose of inspiration and motivation to 'keep it moving'!

Thanks, Aprell!

That is very funny how you met one of your relatives at the conferences. But it sounds like it was a great learning experience for you. Besides the 80 new PhDs, How many others were there that were ABD or just a couple years into grad school? Did the new PhDs provide advice outside of the 60sec speeches (i.e, workshops, groups, etc)

I watched Dr. Jean's speech, and I was kind of moved that he decided to write his graduation/ABD speech before graduation as a method to motivate himself. Did he do this when he first started grad? I may need to the same, lol.
